Groups & Classes

Explore and Belong

No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, we will help you get connected to others, and to explore your beliefs.

Whether it’s small groups, classes, or quiet days, there’s a place you can belong. Don’t forget our Outreach programs too. They’re a great way to make friends, while working together on a common cause.

Check out the offerings below, and either email or speak to an organizer directly, or contact Rev. Peter (310 375-4617 x225) to find out more.

Life Groups

Small groups provide a context within the broader community of our church to connect and grow, deepening our relationship with God and others. Groups create sacred spaces where we can support and encourage each other.

For help finding a group, either contact Rev. Peter to talk about your needs and preferences, or feel free to contact the leaders directly. They will all be happy to hear from you!

  • A Men's Corner

Monthly informal conversations in a local coffee shop with the men of our parish. Come join Rev. Peter and Canon Hank and connect with other men at St. Francis over a meal or cup of coffee. Either let us know you’ll be joining us, or just stop by! Check our calendar for upcoming dates and venue. Contacts: Hank Gatlin or Rev. Peter

  • Episcopal Church Women (ECW) & Antique Show

A national organization – all Episcopal women are automatically a member. We focus on the needs of the women of the ECW, the mission of our parish, and our mission of outreach. We have several guilds which form the basis for building closeness and friendship.
Contact: Anna Eakins – your new friends are waiting to meet you!

    The Antiques Show

The ECW are also the power behind this South Bay tradition, which has taken place in late May/early June for the last 50 years! The show opens with a wonderful gala evening, followed by a three day show, plus delicious food and drink, harvest cupboard, plant sales and more! The Show typically raises between $25,000 and $30,000 annually to support community services in the South Bay and wider community, as well as our ministries at St. Francis. Find out more: Contact Jamie Bellows or Wendy Pratt

Quiet Days – see below for details.
The ECW also sponsor two quiet days in Advent and Lent. Men and women are all welcome.

  • Food & Friends

Food & Friends are small groups that meet once a month over a meal to connect and support each other in their faith journey. Each group determines when (day and time of the day) and where to meet (people’s homes or restaurants). Food & Friends is a great way to feel more connect to the St. Francis community. Contact: Rev. Peter

  • Friars

A great group of guys who whip up meals or special treats for all-parish celebrations like Lenten Suppers, Mother’s Day, and the Get Connected BBQ. It’s a great opportunity for fathers & sons to spend time together too. Contact: Dick Briggs

  • Nurture Group

Meets alternate weeks – day to be arranged. 6:30 – 9 p.m., in members’ homes.

A safe space to nurture and deepen your spiritual life. Each meeting begins with a shared meal. We offer hospitality to each other, listening and sharing our journey of faith together. The group uses different methods to examine and deepen our spiritual lives usually by working through a book by a great spiritual writer and thinker…but it is definitely NOT a book club. Our group likes to work with books that spur us to action in our lives. This cycle we are being challenged by Father Gregory Boyle of Home Boys Ministry, in his book, Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion. We seek to develop the spiritual disciplines such as contemplative prayer, silence, listening and soul friendship. Anyone is welcome. Contact: Alison Houghton-Kral

  • Sages - (Senior Adult Group of Episcopalians)

A friendly and welcoming group, who meet for lunch on the average of every other month, when we invite interesting and challenging speakers and also hold regular fun outings in our area. Check our calendar for upcoming dates and/or Contact: Hank Gatlin
